DANIEL TAYLOR IN LEAMINGTON RECEIVES COMMUNITY ORDER OVER CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
When police officers seized a computer belonging to Daniel Taylor, they discovered video clips depicting children as young as one year old being subjected to sexual abuse by adults.However, a judge has decided that Taylor’s public protection is better served through treatment and community service rather than imprisonment.
Taylor, 26, from St Marys Crescent in Leamington, pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to three charges of producing indecent images of children.
The court imposed a three-year community order, requiring him to participate in a three-year sex offenders treatment program and complete 60 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, Recorder Christopher Hotten QC ordered Taylor to undertake a 30-day rehabilitation activity, register as a sex offender for five years, and pay £600 in costs.
In his sentencing remarks, Recorder Hotten emphasized the gravity of Taylor’s actions, stating: "The seriousness of what you did is that without consumers, there’s no market.
Everybody who downloads images such as these helps to create a market and provides a reason for children to be abused in the appalling way these children were.
That is what you have done.
Sitting alone in your room, it isolates you from what is going on all over the world—a child subjected to abuse in horrifying circumstances." He continued: "But it seems to me the most important thing is to do what can be done to deter you from behaving in this way in the future.
Although this clearly passes the custody threshold, the public is likely to be better protected by my not sending you to prison today." The case was built on police evidence gathered in August 2015, when officers visited Taylor’s home following intelligence that he was downloading indecent material of children.
His partner answered the door, but when officers spoke to Taylor, he pointed to his red laptop and indicated that illegal images could be found there.
The police seized the laptop and a memory stick, discovering that Taylor had downloaded images using a file-sharing app.
They found a total of 245 indecent images, most of which were videos, accessible to him without being deleted.
The files had explicit filenames indicating their content.
Among these, 110 were classified as category A, depicting children subjected to the most severe abuse, with 128 in category B and seven in category C.
Prosecutor James Dunstan explained that Taylor’s search terms revealed he was actively seeking indecent images of both girls and boys.
During police interviews, Taylor admitted to downloading hundreds of such images over the last six to nine months.
He stated he initially downloaded them out of curiosity but later found sexual gratification from them.
In mitigation, defense attorney Andrew Tucker acknowledged the heinous nature of the offences but highlighted Taylor’s honesty and remorse.
He noted that Taylor had cooperated fully, showing transparency by directing police to the laptop and making significant admissions.
Tucker emphasized that Taylor had not distributed any material and demonstrated insight into his actions.
