Maths Teacher Sentenced for Grooming and Sexual Abuse in Greater Manchester

MATHS TEACHER SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL ABUSE IN GREATER MANCHESTER

A maths teacher who groomed and sexually abused a girl aged between 16 and 17 in Greater Manchester ten years ago has been given a suspended sentence.

Daniel Rowe, aged 39, was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years.

He is also required to complete 25 days of rehabilitation, is prohibited from working with children for ten years, and must not contact the victim for ten years.

The allegations date back over a decade when a senior colleague warned about his inappropriately close relationship with a student.

Rowe then secretly began messaging her after being formally reprimanded for working with her alone, which was deemed unsafe.

He groomed her by telling her not to date others and encouraged her to attend a university connected to him, with intentions to date her later.

He sexually abused her via FaceTime, urging her to undress on camera and engage in sexual activities, as prosecutors stated.

Rowe's arrest occurred on April 12, 2021, and he refused to comment during police interviews.

The case was tried at Bolton Crown Court, where he was found guilty of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity while in a position of trust.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Wendy V Lloyd emphasized that Rowe exploited his trust to groom and exploit the student, damaging her sense of safety and trust.

The court also issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order to prevent contact with the victim again.
