DANIEL ROBINSON JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN GLOUCESTER AND MOLD

In May 2016, a man named Daniel Robinson was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of a serious sexual assault involving a girl under the age of 13. The incident took place in Mold, but Robinson, who previously resided in the Mold area and later moved to Gloucester, faced justice at Mold Crown Court. Despite his initial plea of not guilty, the jury found him guilty in March, leading to a significant legal outcome.

Judge Rhys Rowlands, presiding over the case, ordered Robinson to register as a sex offender for life, emphasizing the gravity of his actions. Additionally, a 10-year sexual harm prevention order was imposed to safeguard the public from any future harm that Robinson might pose. The judge expressed clear disapproval of Robinson’s attitude, stating that he showed no remorse for his conduct and lacked understanding of the harm inflicted upon the young victim. The assault was described as a serious sexual offense committed against a very young girl, highlighting the severity of the case.

During the sentencing, Judge Rowlands noted that Robinson had been intoxicated at the time, suggesting that alcohol may have played a role in lowering his inhibitions. The court heard that Robinson had been disturbed by another individual present during the incident, whom he instructed to leave the room before continuing his assault. The victim, understandably traumatized, ran from the scene crying out for help, an act that underscored the emotional impact of the assault. The judge remarked that both the girl and her mother had been profoundly affected by Robinson’s actions, and that the trauma would likely stay with the girl for many years to come.

Despite the seriousness of the offense, Robinson was described as a man with no prior criminal record, and his behavior was considered out of character. Evidence presented in court included references from his wife and father, who attested to his good qualities, including his role as a caring father to his son. His defense lawyer, Debra White, highlighted the profound consequences of the conviction, noting that Robinson’s wife remained supportive and that he had spent six weeks in Liverpool’s Altcourse Prison on remand, initially on the vulnerable persons’ wing. During his time in custody, Robinson had witnessed a traumatic event where his cellmate was found hanging; he assisted the cellmate, which had a lasting emotional impact on him. Robinson was later moved to the healthcare wing but faced threats and chose to isolate himself in his cell.

Prior to the offenses, Robinson was the primary caregiver for his son while his wife worked, and the prison sentence would be particularly difficult given this separation. The judge acknowledged that the evidence against Robinson was compelling, and while he might not have committed the offense if sober, he now expressed regret for his actions. Prosecutor Karl Scholz presented evidence including DNA analysis and nail clippings that strongly supported the allegation that Robinson had touched the girl. However, his defense argued that no such act had occurred.

The incident in question took place in March of the previous year. Following the assault, the victim was seen crying hysterically and seeking help. Robinson was the one who contacted the police, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, and claimed he was calling to prevent being labeled a paedophile. His behavior and the evidence presented led to his conviction, marking a significant and serious case in the area of child protection and criminal justice.
