DANIEL RENSHAW SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR MURDER IN ELLESMERE PORT
The case centers around Daniel Renshaw, a 27-year-old man who was convicted of the murder of his father, Graham Renshaw, in Ellesmere Port.According to court reports, Daniel stabbed his father in the head and chest 19 times during a visit to their family home.
The court heard that Daniel had consumed "copious amounts" of alcohol despite knowing how it would affect his mental state.
In his defense, he claimed to have been "acting in a strange way" before the attack and argued that he drank to ease his psychotic symptoms, suggesting diminished responsibility.
However, the jury determined that his actions were due to prolonged excessive alcohol abuse.
Following his conviction at Liverpool Crown Court, Daniel Renshaw was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years.
The court described his actions as being violently carried out while his father was sleeping on a sofa and noted the devastating impact on the family.
A victim impact statement from his mother expressed her despair, stating, "I will never forgive Danny and I don’t think he will ever realize the devastation he has caused."
