DANIEL O'GRADY, SERIAL SEX PREDATOR, STRIKES IN CREWE CHARITY SHOP JUST WEEKS AFTER RELEASE
A notorious sex offender, Daniel O'Grady, 47, from London Road, Sandbach, committed a sexual assault at a Crewe charity shop only two weeks after being released from prison. On Thursday, Chester Crown Court convicted O'Grady of sexually assaulting a young mother inside the DebRA charity shop on September 11 last year.
He denied the charge of touching her without consent but was found guilty following a two-day trial.
He was acquitted of a second count involving an unnamed young girl in the same store.
The court heard that O'Grady approached his victim from behind with a thrusting movement, a pattern similar to his previous seven convictions for indecent assaults on children aged between five and 13.
The woman, who is in her twenties and cannot be named, was shopping in the Victoria Centre charity shop at approximately 3:15 pm with her one-year-old daughter when the assault occurred.
In tears during her testimony, she recounted: "I felt somebody bang into me from behind.
He thrust himself against me twice.
When I looked around, he was really startled and quickly moved to the other side of the store." The jury also heard from the shop manager, Susan Hindle, who noted that O'Grady seemed suspicious upon entering.
She stated: "He walked past the counter and I smiled, but he didn't smile back and seemed to have a strange expression on his face." Following the incident, Hindle contacted security after the young woman described what had happened.
O'Grady, previously convicted in 2004 of exposing himself at a petrol station shop, was arrested by police just 15 minutes later at a furniture shop.
