CORNWALL MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR BROTHER'S BRUTAL MURDER
A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his brother with a hammer-like weapon at their mother’s home in Cornwall.
Daniel Lynch, 39, from Bosmeor Park in Illogan, had previously denied attacking his older brother Shane Lynch, who suffered 11 head wounds, during their mother’s kitchen last November.
The jury at Truro Crown Court convicted Lynch of killing Shane Lynch.
The judge, Simon Carr, sentenced Lynch to serve a minimum of 20 years in prison, less 283 days spent on remand.
Lynch was found acting in an irrational, paranoid, and angry manner on the day of the attack, with the judge stating, "An argument or disagreement escalated dramatically and you armed yourself with a weapon and carried out a sustained, frenzied attack on your own brother.
Your intention was to kill." Following the sentencing, Det Insp Rob Smith emphasized that Shane Lynch was "brutally murdered by his own brother in their mother’s home," adding that the exact reasons for the attack would likely never be known.
Lynch continued to deny responsibility despite overwhelming evidence, and CCTV footage showed a figure leaving the scene with a rucksack after the attack, which Lynch denied was him.
The case was described as a tragic and brutal familial murder, with efforts made during the investigation to establish the circumstances leading to Shane Lynch's death.
