GRANDAD JAILED FOR DECADES-OLD SEX CRIMES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS
A grandfather has been sentenced to seven years in prison for engaging in serious sexual offenses against young females more than four decades ago.Joiner Daniel Kerr, aged 58, was convicted of raping one girl who has since passed away, when she was between ten and 12 years old in Glasgow during the 1980s.
He was also found guilty of sexually abusing another girl in Glasgow when she was aged between ten and 14, and committing further offenses of lewd and libidinous behavior against her between 1979 and 1985.
Kerr started the abuse when he was about 14 years old and continued into his early twenties.
The court heard that Kerr targeted a second girl in the city, launching sexual attacks on her when she was between ten and 14.
He appeared for sentencing via prison video link at the High Court in Edinburgh after a jury confirmed his guilt.
Kerr was also sentenced to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
Despite the severity of his actions, Kerr maintained a denial or minimization of his offending, which began when he was a child and continued into his young adulthood.
The judge, Lord Braid, acknowledged that Kerr was a child when the offenses started but was an adult during their continuation.
Kerr, who lives in Glasgow’s Priesthill area, has four children and five grandchildren, and has been with his wife since he was 16, having a successful marriage.
His defense counsel noted that Kerr’s crimes occurred a long time ago, describing a 'pretty dysfunctional background' during that period.
The court also considered that Kerr was a low risk of reoffending based on a recent risk assessment.
