DANIEL JONES SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSIVE BEHAVIOR IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
In May 2023, Daniel Jones, a 34-year-old CNC machinist from Stoke-on-Trent, found himself at the center of a serious criminal case involving online sexual misconduct.Jones had engaged in conversations with what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl named Holly, but in reality, he was communicating with an undercover police officer posing as the young teenager.
Jones initiated the contact through popular messaging platforms, Kik Messenger and Snapchat, where the exchanges quickly took on a sexual tone.
The prosecutor, Jonathan Dickinson, detailed the nature of these interactions during the court proceedings, emphasizing that the conversation began with Jones immediately acknowledging Holly’s age as 13.
The defendant then proceeded to send her images, including a provocative game image with sexual connotations, and later, explicit photographs of himself holding his genitals.
According to the court, Holly responded by sending a picture of herself, to which Jones responded with compliments, calling her “cute” and “very pretty.” He also inquired about her personal life, asking if she had a boyfriend or if she ever considered skipping school for a day.
The conversation escalated further when Jones sent an explicit image of himself, claiming it was him in the photo, and later, when Holly sent a picture of her back, he responded with another similar explicit image.
The police acted swiftly once the conversations came to light.
Jones was arrested at his residence on Pickwick Place, Butt Lane, in March 2022.
A search of his phone revealed a disturbing collection of evidence, including 121 prohibited images of children.
The device also contained further Kik Messenger conversations where Jones was communicating with others, allegedly under 16, in a sexual manner.
He attempted to persuade them to view images of sexual activity by sending explicit pictures of himself, including an erect penis.
Jones ultimately pleaded guilty to three charges related to attempted sexual communication with a child.
The court sentenced him to a 12-month prison term, suspended for 18 months, meaning he will not serve time immediately but will be under supervision for the duration of the suspension.
As part of his sentence, he is required to participate in a 30-day rehabilitation activity program and complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he has been issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the next decade, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
