STOCKPORT SHOPKEEPER JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT OF TEEN GIRL
A shopkeeper named Daniel Hashmi, aged 44, has been convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a teenage girl in Stockport.
He was found guilty of two counts of attempted rape as well as multiple sexual assaults carried out at a shop on Wellington Road South during November and December 2024.
During the Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court trial, the victim emotionally conveyed her feelings of betrayal and disappointment, expressing that she would never trust anyone again.
Hashmi’s offending included grooming the girl by purchasing vodka and vapes, then trapping her in a backroom with a sofa to prevent her escape before committing sexual assaults.
In one instance, he used furniture to confine her before assaulting her sexually.
The court sentenced him to a 10-year prison term, with an order for him to register as a sex offender for life, alongside a restraining order and a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
The victim and her family demonstrated notable bravery, while police, such as Detective Constable Ben Swapp, reaffirmed their dedication to removing offenders like Hashmi from society to protect children and the community.
Hashmi, residing on Audley Road in Levenshulme, was also convicted of three counts of sexual assault against a female, highlighting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to public safety.
