HEARTLESS MILTON KEYNES MAN WHO THREW HIS SMALL DOG TO THE FLOOR IN ANGER IS GIVEN SUSPENDED PRISON SENTENCE

A man who acted in a fit of rage by throwing his Jack Russell mix on the ground has been given a suspended prison sentence along with a five-year prohibition on owning pets.

The incident was captured on CCTV in Milton Keynes, where Daniel Gurney pushed the dog, Cali, with such force that she dislocated her hip and suffered significant bruising on her legs.

Despite her visible injuries, Gurney failed to seek veterinary care, leaving her to limp away.

The RSPCA launched an investigation after receiving reports of an injured dog at Gurney’s residence in Fishermead’s Gurnards Avenue in February of last year.

The evidence included doorbell footage showing Gurney handling Cali roughly before forcefully dropping her near his flat door.

The dog was seen limping in the footage following the incident.

Gurney was charged after the investigation and appeared before Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court.

He admitted to causing unnecessary pain to the dog through rough handling and neglecting to provide medical treatment for her injuries.

The 29-year-old, now living in Aylesbury, was sentenced to a nine-week jail term, suspended for a year, and ordered to undertake 25 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement Days.

Moreover, he was banned from keeping animals for the next five years.

During the court hearing, RSPCA Inspector Stephanie Law explained that she visited Gurney’s former partner’s home on February 8 last year, where she observed Cali’s bruised leg and her limping behavior.

The animal was examined by a veterinarian who confirmed the dislocated hip.

Police had seized Cali, transferring her to the RSPCA’s care.

Inspector Law noted that the bruising and limp indicated injury that would likely prompt a responsible owner to seek veterinary help immediately.

The vet, shown the CCTV footage, stated that Gurney’s handling of Cali was unreasonable and caused her pain unnecessarily.

Following surgery and recovery at RSPCA’s Finsbury Park Hospital, Cali was rehomed.

Gurney cited mental health problems as the reason for his behavior, for which he is now receiving treatment.

The court ordered him to pay £400 in costs and a victim surcharge of £114.

Inspector Law commented on the case, emphasizing Cali’s fear and suffering during the incident, and expressed satisfaction that the CCTV footage allowed for successful prosecution and the imposition of the pet ownership ban.
