DANIEL GRANT FROM BEDWORTH ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEX WITH 14-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL IN MIDLANDS

In April 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Daniel Grant, a 19-year-old resident of Queensland Gardens, Bedworth, who engaged in sexual activity with a 14-year-old schoolgirl. The incident drew significant attention from local authorities and the judicial system due to the serious nature of the offenses and the circumstances surrounding them.

According to reports, Grant was arrested after an alarming incident at the victim’s home in the Midlands. He arrived at the residence with a visible cut on his arm, demanding to know the whereabouts of the young girl. This unexpected visit prompted immediate concern from the girl’s parents, who had no prior knowledge of Grant’s relationship with their daughter and were unaware of his presence at their property.

Authorities were alerted, and Grant was taken into custody. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Grant had pleaded guilty to three charges related to sexual activity with a child. The court heard that Grant suffers from autism and Tourette’s syndrome, factors that were considered during sentencing. Judge Andrew Lockhart QC presided over the case at Warwick Crown Court. He sentenced Grant to 18 months of detention, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning Grant would not serve time in prison unless he committed another offense within that period. Additionally, Grant was ordered to participate in a rehabilitation program, fined £250, and required to register as a sex offender for ten years. A restraining order was also issued, explicitly prohibiting Grant from having any form of contact, whether direct or indirect, with the victim.

The case came to light after the victim’s parents discovered Grant lying in the front garden of their Midlands home. They were initially unaware of his identity and feared the worst, especially after noticing the cut on his arm. Their concern grew when Grant began asking for the girl by name, indicating a possible connection or prior knowledge of the victim.

During police interviews, the victim disclosed that she had previously met Grant outside her home and that they had engaged in sexual activity. She explained that Grant had persistently pestered her before they had sex, which she later described to authorities.

Judge Lockhart addressed the court, highlighting that Grant was experiencing a mental health breakdown at the time of the incident. He emphasized that Grant knowingly engaged in sexual activity with a girl significantly younger than himself, fully aware that such conduct was illegal and inappropriate. The judge stated, “She is a child. That is something you knew at the time, and yet you took advantage of her.”

He further remarked, “These are serious matters, and you must understand that. It doesn’t matter that she consented, she was not old enough to have consented.” The case underscores the importance of safeguarding minors and the legal responsibilities of individuals, regardless of their mental health conditions, when it comes to interactions with children.
