DANIEL FARR FROM LYDNEY AND PONTNEWYNYDD CAUGHT WITH OVER 750 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Lydney and Pontnewynydd, Daniel Farr, a 25-year-old man, was found to have downloaded and possessed a significant collection of indecent images of children over a period of several years. The investigation, which culminated in a police raid, revealed that Farr had been engaging in this illicit activity for approximately three to four years, starting from what he described as mere curiosity.

On June 25 of the previous year, authorities executed a search warrant at Farr’s residence on Lancaster Drive, Lydney North, following an extensive internet investigation. The police’s action was prompted by suspicions raised through online activity, leading to the seizure of multiple electronic devices capable of storing illicit material. During questioning, Farr admitted to possessing more than 750 indecent images of children across various devices, including a laptop, external storage, and a memory stick.

Prosecutor Graham Dono detailed that during the police search, Farr was confronted with the evidence and subsequently confessed to the ongoing collection of such images. He revealed that his interest was primarily driven by a sexual attraction to girls aged around 13 years old. Farr’s admission confirmed that his viewing habits involved a large volume of images, which he would often delete but continued to accumulate over the years.

Following his arrest, Farr was taken into custody and later pleaded guilty to six charges related to the possession of indecent photographs of children. His current residence is now listed as 12 Holly Oak Terrace, Pontnewynydd, Gwent. The court proceedings highlighted the seriousness of his actions and the potential risk posed to children and the community.

In his defense, lawyer Nik Cooper argued that there was no immediate need for a Sexual Offences Prohibition Order (SOPO) to prevent Farr from coming into contact with children, emphasizing that no contact offenses had been committed. Cooper stated, “There must be an identifiable risk of a contact offence before this prohibition is justified, but he has not offended in this way.”

Despite this, the court imposed a five-year SOPO on Farr, restricting his access to children and requiring him to adhere to strict conditions. Additionally, he was sentenced to a supervised three-year community order and mandated to complete an Internet Sexual Offending Treatment Programme (ISOTP). Farr was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £60.

The presiding judge acknowledged Farr’s guilty plea and his cooperation with police and probation services, stating, “You pleaded guilty and are entitled to credit, and I will take into account your frankness in discussing the matter with police and the probation service.” The judge also noted that Farr has no previous convictions of this nature, but warned that all digital devices, including his phone, must be monitored and that any breach of the order would constitute a separate offense. The court emphasized that authorities would be scrutinizing his online activity to prevent further offenses and protect potential victims.
