MAN WAS GIVEN PRISON TIME BUT FORMER PARTNER SAYS IT'S NOT ENOUGH

A woman from Nelson has voiced her frustration regarding the sentencing of her former partner, who repeatedly assaulted her.

Alisa Robinson detailed the severity of the abuse she endured at the hands of Daniel Davy, emphasising her intention to warn others after he was sentenced to a year in prison for causing her actual bodily harm.

The 42-year-old explained her sense of betrayal by the justice process, expressing disappointment with the outcome at Burnley Crown Court.

She recounted how Davy had physically attacked her multiple times, including knocking out teeth and leaving facial scars.

Robinson stated that Davy mocked her and told her she deserved the abuse, describing the lasting impact on her appearance.

She also noted ongoing dental treatment resulting from her injuries.

Robinson further criticised the leniency of the sentence, pointing out that Davy had a history of similar abuse against other women.

She questioned the adequacy of a one-year sentence, suggesting it should carry more weight given his previous convictions.

Davy, 27, from Nelson, admitted to assaulting Robinson on March 25.

In previous incidents, he had received a suspended sentence for violence against her.

Prosecutor Emma Kehoe explained that the couple had a tumultuous relationship since 2016, compounded by Davy's drinking and jealousy.

She described how on the day of the assault, Davy, who had been drinking since early morning, became aggressive and demanded money during an argument.

Robinson threw coffee at him, prompting Davy to attack her with a broken cup, which caused bleeding, a broken tooth, and cuts to her chin and nose.

The court was told Davy found her injuries amusing amid his intoxication.

Davy’s criminal record includes eight prior convictions, covering offenses like disorder, drug possession, criminal damage, and assault.

Additionally, he had attended only nine of twenty-five probation appointments.

His lawyer requested leniency, noting that Davy had not previously served jail time, had periods of reduced offending, and had maintained a casual job for over two years.

Judge Andrew Woolman sentenced Davy to a total of 52 weeks in prison adding 42 weeks to his previous suspended sentence.

Robinson expressed her disappointment with the punishment, warning others against forming relationships with Davy.

She emphasised his substance issues and argued that the sentence was insufficient, calling for systemic change to prevent such cases.

Robinson closed by advising women to seek help early to avoid tragic consequences.
