WAKEFIELD MAN DANIEL CROMACK SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGE OFFENSES USING CHILD'S TABLET

In March 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving Daniel Cromack, a resident of Wakefield, who continued to access and download illegal images depicting child sexual abuse despite previous convictions and court orders aimed at curbing his offending behavior.

It was revealed that Cromack, who resides in Teall Court, Ossett, Wakefield, had used his father's laptop to download these abhorrent images.

His intent appeared to be to avoid detection and the strict measures put in place to prevent him from reoffending.

The court heard that Cromack was arrested for a second time in connection with these activities, yet he persisted in his illegal actions, this time turning to a child's tablet device to continue his illicit activities.

Following his arrest, Cromack, aged 26, faced a series of serious charges.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and breaching a sexual offences prevention order.

As a result, he was sentenced to 20 months in prison.

The prosecution, led by Phillip Adams, highlighted that Cromack had previously been subjected to a community order in September 2015 for similar offenses, indicating a pattern of concerning behavior.

On June 22 of the previous year, police officers responded to reports that illegal material was being accessed from Cromack’s residence.

During their investigation, they recovered a laptop from his home, which forensic tests confirmed had been used to access and download abusive images of children.

The material included a total of 129 movies classified at Category A, the most severe level of offending, underscoring the gravity of the content involved.

During police interviews, Cromack admitted that he had taken the laptop from his parents’ wardrobe and accessed the illicit images when his family was out.

He also confessed to deleting his search history to conceal his activities.

Despite these efforts, law enforcement officials continued their investigation and returned to Cromack’s home on February 22 of the following year.

During this visit, they seized a child's tablet device, which Cromack further admitted he had used to continue his offending.

In mitigation, John Batchelor argued that Cromack had been in custody since his February arrest and had suffered a serious assault while in prison.

He urged the court to consider a community-based sentence, believing that with proper support and intervention from the probation service, Cromack might be able to address his behavior and prevent further offending.

However, the presiding judge, Recorder Rachim Singh, expressed disappointment with Cromack’s repeated offenses.

He stated, “The court felt that with the appropriate intervention by the probation service, that would curtail any further offending.

The court was wrong.

Subsequent to the imposition of that order, you have committed two separate further offenses over a period of time.” In delivering the sentence, Recorder Singh emphasized the seriousness of Cromack’s actions, remarking, “People like you who crave these images fuel the making of them.

You are just as much to blame.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by individuals who seek to access and distribute child abuse images, and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial measures to combat such heinous crimes.
