DANIEL BILAN OF CAMDEN CONVICTED OF ATTEMPTED RAPE AT WOOD GREEN CROWN COURT
A man named Daniel Bilan, born on 18 September 1993 and residing in Camden, NW5, has been convicted of attempted rape following a trial held at Wood Green Crown Court.He is scheduled to be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, 21 December.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 4 April, when police received a report of an attempted rape at a property in Camden.
Officers responded to the scene and interviewed the victim, a woman in her 20s, who stated that she had been attacked by a housemate who had recently moved in.
The victim received specialist support from officers and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Expressing her relief and hope, she said: “After the trauma and disgust I am facing from the attack, I am very happy with the result of the trial.
I am hoping this is the start of my journey to recovery from my worst experience created by his actions.
Thank you to the Police, CPS and Women’s Solace for helping me through the trial and investigation.” Detective Sergeant Joel Gregory, from the Central North Serious Sexual Offence team, praised the victim’s bravery, stating: “The victim in this case showed great courage in providing evidence during the trial which left the jury in no doubt as to Bilan’s guilt.” He also commended the quick actions of the housemate, who called 999 after hearing the attack, allowing police to respond swiftly and arrest Bilan almost immediately.
He added, “We take all reports of sexual offences incredibly seriously and we hope this case demonstrates our commitment to bringing offenders to justice.”
