Perth Rapist
A man with a disturbing history of sexual offenses, Dane Lundie, has been sentenced to prison after a series of violent and heinous crimes committed in Perth and Kinross. The court heard how Lundie, aged 37, carried out a brutal campaign of assault, sexual violence, and threats against multiple women, leaving a trail of trauma and fear in his wake.

His criminal activities spanned several years, beginning in January 2013 when he was residing in Perth at an address on Collinson View. Over the course of nearly two years, until November 2014, Lundie targeted at least two women, subjecting them to physical and sexual abuse. One of these victims, a 30-year-old woman, recounted her ordeal in court, describing Lundie’s escalating aggression and controlling behavior. She revealed that she sustained a black eye and bruises from beatings inflicted by Lundie, who was physically abusive, pulling her hair and causing her hair to fall out. She further testified that after sexually assaulting her, Lundie laughed about it, displaying a chilling lack of remorse.

She also described a terrifying incident where Lundie held a knife to her throat, threatening her life, and used dressing gown ties to restrain her. The victim recounted Lundie’s threat to set her legs on fire, holding a lit lighter dangerously close to her skin. Her words conveyed the depth of her fear and helplessness during these assaults.

In addition to these assaults, Lundie threatened to burn a woman who was restrained during his violent episodes, further demonstrating his capacity for brutality. One victim, who was subjected to an invasive sexual search in front of another woman, described the experience as “disgusting” and expressed that she struggled to articulate the horror she endured. The witness noted that the woman being searched was visibly frightened and begged Lundie to stop, but he ignored her pleas.

After a period of apparent inactivity, Lundie resumed his offending in 2018 following his move to Mill Street in Kinross. There, he targeted two more women, one of whom was just 23 years old. This woman revealed that Lundie was supplying her with drugs such as heroin, Valium, cocaine, and crack cocaine. She also disclosed that Lundie began raping her while she was asleep, leaving her waking up sore and distressed. Her testimony highlighted the ongoing danger Lundie posed to vulnerable women.

During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lundie denied numerous charges, but the jury found him guilty of 12 offenses, including rape, assault causing a danger to life, abduction, and threatening and abusive behavior. The court heard that Lundie is already a registered sex offender and has been assessed as presenting a high risk to females. The judge, Fiona Tait, ordered a background report to be prepared ahead of sentencing scheduled for next month. Lundie was remanded in custody pending the final decision.

Following the verdict, Mr. Davidson, representing the prosecution, emphasized the severity of Lundie’s crimes and his dangerous profile, underscoring the need for a substantial custodial sentence to protect the community from further harm.
