Pop singer Dane Bowers has denied assaulting his former partner, Sophie Cahill, claiming he was acting in self-defence when he struck her. According to court reports, Bowers acknowledged making contact with Cahill's face during a scuffle, but insisted it was accidental, stating, "[He] made contact with Sophie Cahill's face when he flailed his arms during a scuffle." Cahill accused Bowers of assault, saying he had hit her in the face, resulting in a bloody nose, and had pulled her hair and squeezed her throat. Bowers denied having beaten her, saying, "No, of course not." The incident reportedly took place after Cahill confronted Bowers about glitter on his face, which she noticed while trying to wake him. She claimed that after pointing this out, Bowers launched an attack, grabbing her by the shoulders, throwing her out of a bedroom, and hitting her in the face. Bowers, aged 35, explained he had been at a circus-themed nightclub the previous evening to help a friend find a job, returning home around 2 or 3 am and spending time with his father. The court case is ongoing.
