WAKEFIELD PAEDOPHILE DAMIEN CARTER SENTENCED AFTER ONLINE PREDATION SCHEMES
In August 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Damien Carter, a man from Wakefield, who was convicted of engaging in heinous online activities aimed at exploiting children.Carter, a former IT professional, became the subject of intense scrutiny after he was caught in two separate undercover operations designed to expose online predators.
His troubles began when he was initially targeted by a paedophile hunter group known as 'Here 4 The Kids.' During this sting, Carter believed he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl.
Over a span of five months, he exchanged a series of disturbing and sexually explicit messages, often becoming aggressive or 'getting nasty' when he did not receive the responses he desired.
One particularly alarming message read, “How about we meet up and I kill you?” Following the evidence gathered by the vigilante group, authorities arrested Carter.
During questioning, he initially denied any wrongdoing, claiming he thought he was talking to a 31-year-old woman.
His devices were seized, revealing a cache of indecent images, including 12 classified as Category A, the most severe level of child abuse material.
Despite his initial denial, further investigations uncovered more disturbing behavior.
In January of the same year, Carter engaged with an online messaging service, believing he was speaking to a woman with similar sexual interests.
During this exchange, he openly expressed a sexual interest in children aged three to nine.
He admitted he had not previously abused a child but confessed that it was his 'dream' to do so.
Carter also proposed to meet the woman’s daughter and even suggested they have a child together for the purpose of abuse, indicating a disturbing intent to commit further crimes.
His actions did not stop there.
In June, Carter was arrested once again after attempting to incite a child into sexual activity, trying to cause a child to watch a sexual act, and attempting to arrange a meeting for sexual purposes.
These attempts were part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to prevent potential abuse.
During the court proceedings, Carter pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to incite a child into sexual activity, attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act, attempting to meet a child for sexual purposes, and possessing indecent images of children.
Judge Geoffrey Marson QC sentenced him to four years in prison.
In his remarks, the judge acknowledged Carter’s claim of alcohol dependency at the time but dismissed it, stating, “I simply do not accept this.
You said you were manipulated by these people running the decoys to minimise your responsibility.” Damien Carter’s case highlights the ongoing dangers posed by online predators and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community groups working together to protect vulnerable children from exploitation.
