DALE THOMAS FROM RUNCORN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN ELLSMERE PORT

In November 2019, Dale Thomas, a 31-year-old man from Runcorn, was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of multiple serious offenses related to child exploitation and possession of indecent images.

The case was heard at Chester Crown Court, where the court heard disturbing details about Thomas's criminal activities that spanned several years and involved numerous victims.

Authorities first became aware of Thomas's illicit activities in 2017 when an indecent image was uploaded from his Ellesmere Port residence to the internet.

Following this discovery, police executed a search warrant at his address on May 5, 2017.

During the search, officers seized various electronic devices and found a staggering collection of over 10,355 indecent images and videos depicting children in sexualized contexts.

These materials were classified into categories based on their severity, with 1,491 images—including 412 videos—being classified as Category A, the most serious.

Among these was a particularly disturbing image involving a baby girl estimated to be between three and six months old, which left Judge Patrick Thompson commenting that it was one of the most disturbing images he had ever encountered.

Further analysis revealed that Thomas possessed an additional 7,441 images and 472 videos categorized as Category C, which included content involving children and animals.

The police also uncovered 28 extreme pornographic images and videos involving adults engaged in sexual acts with animals, with footage totaling approximately 85 minutes.

Thomas’s criminal conduct extended beyond possession of indecent images.

He was also involved in actively inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual acts via Snapchat.

Initially, Thomas claimed that the girl had initiated the contact, but he later admitted that it was his idea to record her, especially after being confronted with evidence of a prepared camera at the scene.

Additionally, Thomas posted an explicit advertisement on Instagram, inviting children to engage in sexual activities.

The ad included phrases such as “Girls to see my d***, show me your b***s, DM me,” and explicitly mentioned “13+ [or] any younger girls who like older guys.” Moreover, Thomas maintained a Kik messaging account where he communicated with underage girls aged 15 to 17, exchanging explicit images of their breasts and genitals.

These interactions further demonstrated his predatory behavior over a period spanning from September 2011 to May 2017.

During the court proceedings, Thomas pleaded guilty to all charges, which included the possession and distribution of indecent images, incitement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, and the creation of explicit content involving children.

He also admitted to possessing a small quantity of cannabis and had a prior conviction for fare-dodging.

Judge Patrick Thompson expressed profound disgust at the nature of the images, especially highlighting the image involving the infant girl, describing it as among the worst he had ever seen.

The judge emphasized that Thomas is a clear danger to children and that his actions demonstrate a disturbing attraction to minors.

He criticized the decision not to charge Thomas with the more serious offense of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, suggesting that had such a charge been made, Thomas might have faced a longer sentence.

In sentencing, Judge Thompson condemned Thomas’s behavior as highly disturbing and indicative of a paedophile.

He stated, “You are a paedophile and clearly present a danger to children, and it’s important you do something about it or the sentences will get longer and longer.” The judge also highlighted the numerous aggravating features of the case, including the large volume of images, the suffering inflicted on the victims, and the fact that many of the videos involved moving images.

Thomas was subsequently sentenced to four years in prison, made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, ensuring strict monitoring of his activities moving forward.
