YORK MAN DALE SMITH JAILED FOR STALKING AND THREATENING WOMAN
A vile individual who harassed a woman during her lunch break and threatened to rape her and break her legs has been sentenced to prison.Dale Smith was observed by the woman as he was urinating near some shops in York on July 6.
Despite her efforts to ignore him, Smith accused her of looking and, along with another man, started to follow her through the streets and alleyways, as heard in Leeds Crown Court.
Initially, Smith, 27, called the woman "beautiful," but his language then turned hostile with insults and threats of sexual violence.
The woman responded by saying she would "kick him in the genitals" if he tried to touch her.
Smith reacted aggressively, saying he would break her legs if she attempted to defend herself.
He and his accomplice continued to stalk her until she approached members of the public to seek safety, during which Smith continued to abuse her and insult bystanders, even saying, "You’ve got a beautiful face but it needs a smack." When police arrived, Smith became angry and refused to cooperate, prompting an officer to deploy a Taser to arrest him.
Smith admitted to charges of common assault and resisting a police officer but was also found to be in breach of a suspended sentence from July 2019.
He further admitted assaulting a police officer by spitting at him during a separate incident in November 2020.
The court was told that Smith hopes to work again in construction when released and desires to start a family and lead a settled life.
The court, presided over by Recorder Ashley Serr, sentenced Smith to one year in prison, with additional orders for him to pay £200 in compensation to the woman and £250 for the police officer he spat at.
