DALE COLE SOUTH SHIELDS PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS AFTER VICTIM'S COURAGEOUS TESTIMONY
In a harrowing case that has shocked the community of South Shields, Dale Cole, a 65-year-old former driving instructor, was sentenced to 13 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences against a young boy.The offences, which included three counts of indecency with a child and one count of attempted buggery, were committed when the victim was still a schoolboy, leaving lasting scars that continue to affect him to this day.
During the trial at Newcastle Crown Court, the victim displayed remarkable bravery by finally breaking his silence about the abuse he endured at the hands of Cole.
His testimony was prompted by a chance encounter in the street, when he drove past Cole, which reignited his anger and pain.
The court heard that this encounter was a catalyst for him to come forward and report the crimes, a decision he made with the encouragement of his partner.
Prosecutor David Comb detailed the victim’s emotional state, revealing that he expressed violent thoughts towards Cole, saying in evidence, “I could strangle the life out of him, I could kill him instantly, I know I could but it is not fair on my family if I get locked up.” Mr.
Comb further explained that the victim had contemplated killing himself if he did not take action against Cole, highlighting the profound impact of the abuse on his mental health.
This intense emotional response ultimately led him to seek justice through the legal system.
Throughout the trial, the victim’s anguish was palpable as he read his impact statement to the court during the sentencing hearing.
He described suffering from frequent flashbacks and nightmares, expressing feelings of exhaustion and deep-seated anger.
He conveyed his frustration at his inability to prevent the abuse, stating, “I feel angry at the world and people in it.
I am angry at not being able to stop it.” Addressing Cole directly from the witness box, he declared, “I am half the man I should be and that is all because of you.
I hate you for what you have done.” In a powerful moment, the victim emphasized his pursuit of justice, asserting, “It is me that put you there,” as he pointed to Cole in the dock.
His words underscored the courage it took to confront his abuser and seek accountability.
Judge Amanda Rippon delivered a stern judgment, describing Cole’s offending as having a “catastrophic” effect on the victim’s life.
She ordered Cole to sign the sex offenders register and to be subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect others from potential harm.
As Cole was led away to begin his prison sentence, the victim, overwhelmed with emotion, called out to him, “I hope you die,” a final expression of his pain and anger.
The case has left a lasting mark on the community of South Shields, highlighting the importance of bravery and justice in confronting such heinous crimes.
