ELLESMERE PORT MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AFTER MEETING VICTIM ONLINE
Dale Byrne, aged 27, was found guilty of sexually assaulting and raping a woman in her home after they connected via a dating website.
The assault took place in Ellesmere Port on October 1, 2021, when Byrne visited the victim’s residence and committed the attack despite her pleas for him to stop and her repeated refusals.
Following his arrest, Byrne faced charges of rape and sexual assault.
Although he initially denied the allegations, a jury convicted him in July after a trial.
On August 11, he appeared before Liverpool Crown Court and received a sentence of seven years in prison.
Detective Constable Josie Fergus from Cheshire police noted that Byrne believed he was above the law and showed no remorse.
She praised the victim's bravery for helping to secure justice.
Byrne was also ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely, and a restraining order was issued to prevent any contact with the victim.
The sentence is intended to provide some measure of reassurance to the survivor and assist her in moving past the incident.
