CYMON PALVOLGYI, FORMER BEDFORDSHIRE POLICE DETECTIVE, SENTENCED IN AYLESBURY
In May 2009, Cymon Palvolgyi, a 42-year-old former Bedfordshire police detective, was sentenced after admitting to downloading images of children. He received a six-month prison term, suspended for two years. Palvolgyi, who resided on Northfield Road in Aylesbury, resigned from the economic crime unit shortly after his arrest in August 2008.The case was triggered when Palvolgyi's wife discovered images and a video of indecent material on his computer, leading authorities to raid his home. Further searches uncovered additional videos stored downstairs and in the loft.
Northampton Crown Court heard that Palvolgyi admitted to downloading the images during police interviews, attributing the behavior to "stress within (his) family life." The court was told that six of the videos were classified as Level 4, indicating involvement of adults sexually abusing children.
Judge Peter Morrell remarked, "You need to sort yourself out. I am going to give you a chance but there must be a prison sentence, but it will be suspended."
Defense representative Russell Eaton explained that Palvolgyi was living in Aylesbury with his 77-year-old mother, who was unwell and had lost two sisters. The court also learned that Palvolgyi owed more than £40,000, was claiming incapacity benefit, but hoped to pursue a course in book-keeping.
Along with the suspended sentence, the judge imposed a two-year supervision order, mandated that Palvolgyi register as a sex offender, and required him to complete a sex offenders program. However, he was not barred from working with children.
