MAN JAILED FOR DELIBERATE BREACH OF SEX OFFENDER ORDER USING SOCIAL MEDIA ALIASES
A man known as Curtis Smith, who had previously been sentenced for sexual communications with a child in 2021, has now been found to have deliberately breached his sex offender management order by using aliases on major social media platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram.
Despite being on a seven-year order, Smith failed to notify police of his use of these platforms and did not disclose the aliases he was using.
The breaches were uncovered during a police visit to his home, where officers discovered multiple aliases used across different social media accounts.
Judge Advocate Thomas Mitchell commented that Smith's deliberate actions constituted a clear violation of the conditions set out in his order.
While there was no evidence he had communicated directly with children, he was observed talking to females on these sites.
The judge also expressed concern that Smith might pose a risk to the public, especially to women, and consequently sentenced him to serve 15 months in prison.
