CURTIS PIKE FROM COVENTRY SENTENCED AFTER ATTEMPTED RAPE IN MULTI-STOREY CAR PARK
In November 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded in Coventry involving Curtis Pike, a 24-year-old man whose actions brought him before the courts on serious charges.Pike's attempt to sexually assault a 14-year-old girl in a multi-storey car park shocked the local community and highlighted the dangers faced by vulnerable minors in the city.
According to court reports, Pike approached the young girl and her friend in the Foleshill Road area, where he initially engaged them with an invitation to join him for drinks.
Despite her friend's objections, the girl agreed to accompany Pike, and they proceeded to a nearby park.
During this encounter, Pike made inappropriate comments about his child and complimented her eyes, which he claimed made her feel safe.
He then expressed his desire to take her to his residence, claiming he had a hot tub and wanted to 'do stuff' with her, despite her clear indication that she was only 14 years old.
As the situation escalated, Pike attempted to kiss the girl and then pushed her away, warning her to leave because he was becoming aroused.
He persuaded her to ignore her phone when her friend tried to call her, and then proceeded to give her cocaine, which he also consumed, along with a can of lager from a pack of four.
Pike took the remaining cans and bought a bottle of vodka and Coca-Cola from a nearby shop.
The girl, feeling increasingly unwell and dizzy, wanted to leave but was coerced by Pike into accompanying him further.
The pair moved into an alleyway where Pike continued to behave inappropriately, attempting to touch her inside his underwear.
As rain began to fall, Pike claimed he knew a better place to go and led her to a multi-storey car park.
There, they continued drinking vodka and coke, and the girl started to feel the effects of intoxication.
She eventually needed to use the toilet and, unable to walk straight, staggered behind a car to urinate.
It was at this point that Pike attempted to sexually assault her.
Fortunately, nearby men in a car noticed her distress and shouted at Pike to get off her.
They questioned the girl about her age and tried to detain Pike, but he fled the scene.
The men then took the girl into their vehicle and offered to drop her off at the end of the road.
Meanwhile, Pike was already present at the scene, shouting for someone to call the police and falsely claiming he had been assaulted and that two men had raped the girl and robbed him in the car park.
When police arrived, they found Pike nearby with £20 worth of cocaine on his person.
He admitted to meeting the girl, kissing her while they drank lager, and giving her cocaine, which she had asked for.
Pike claimed that the girl wanted vodka and that they had touched each other in the car park but denied attempting to rape her.
The police arrested him, and he was charged with multiple offenses.
During the court proceedings at Warwick Crown Court, Pike pleaded guilty to attempted rape and possession of cocaine.
The judge, Andrew Lockhart QC, sentenced him to seven years and two months in prison, giving him credit for his guilty pleas.
Additionally, Pike was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the severity of his actions and the need for ongoing monitoring.
Prosecutor Caroline Harris emphasized the vulnerability of the young girl, noting that she was already a damaged individual before the incident and that Pike’s exploitation of her only worsened her difficulties.
The case served as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding minors and the ongoing efforts to combat such predatory behavior in Coventry.
