BLYTH MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AND STRANGULATION OF EX-PARTNER
A domestic abuse victim has encouraged others to come forward to police after seeing her attacker jailed.Curtis Pearson strangled his ex-partner as she held on to her newborn baby in an unprovoked assault in September 2022.
After being asked to help out with chores, 23-year-old Pearson grabbed the woman and strangled her.
He then shoved her against a wall, striking her twice to the head.
Pearson, of Blyth, denied intentional strangulation and common assault, but was convicted by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court earlier this year.
He was back in the dock in May, as a judge jailed him for 28 months and handed him a 10-year restraining order.
This case involved a brutal attack where Pearson showed a total disregard for the welfare of the victim and her newborn.
The victim, now 20, bravely opened up about her ordeal, saying: "I have never been so scared of someone in all my life.
Curtis has shown no respect for me or my son, and I was so frightened he would hurt me or my baby." She added: "I am pleased that he has now been jailed and that the court process is now behind me.
I would like to thank Detective Constable Stacey Ardley for her help and support, and hope my case helps other victims of abuse find the strength to speak out and tell the police." Northumbria Police Detective Constable Stacey Ardley stated: "This was a truly appalling incident and must have been terrifying for both the victim and her new-born baby.
Pearson showed a total disregard for their welfare as he strangled the mum, who at the same time was desperately trying to ensure her baby was not harmed.
I’m pleased that the severity of his actions have been recognised with a custodial sentence and sincerely hope he takes this time to reflect on his selfish actions." Anyone who is a victim of abuse can contact officers via the ‘Report’ page of Northumbria Police’s website or by calling 101.
