Cristian Vasian, aged 20, was convicted and sentenced for a serious sexual assault that took place in Corby on the evening of November 27, 2023. The attack involved Vasian leading a woman he knew casually to a secluded part of Willow Place where he attempted to engage in sexual activity. When the woman refused, he forcibly assaulted her. The assault was interrupted by two security guards who noticed the incident on CCTV footage, causing Vasian to flee the scene. The police investigation was swift, leading to his arrest when a shop worker identified him from CCTV footage on December 3. Vasian admitted to charges of attempted rape and assault by beating during court proceedings and received an extended sentence of eight years, consisting of four years' imprisonment and a four-year extension on licence. He has been placed on the sex offenders’ register and must register with police indefinitely after his release. The police praised the bravery of the victim and the security guards, emphasizing their commitment to combating violence against women and girls. He will be monitored closely upon release and can be recalled to prison if he violates his licence or commits further offenses. The court also acknowledged the guards’ vital role in stopping the assault and awarded each guard £500 as a reward. The sentence aims to protect the public, and the police continue to encourage victims to seek support.
