CRAIG PELOE CAUGHT IN HARTLEPOOL BY INTERNET PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS AND SENTENCED IN TEESSIDE
In November 2020, a man from Hartlepool named Craig Peloe was involved in a disturbing online incident that led to his arrest and subsequent legal action.Peloe, aged 36 and residing on Chesterton Road in Hartlepool, was caught engaging in sexually explicit conversations with what he believed to be a 12-year-old girl.
The interaction took place on an online dating platform that was actually a decoy operated by a paedophile hunting group called Incognito, specifically by a member known as Deecoyy Jenni.
According to reports presented at Teesside Crown Court, Peloe initiated contact with the decoy via the messaging application WhatsApp.
During their exchanges, the decoy repeatedly emphasized her age, stating she was only 12 years old.
Despite this, Peloe initially claimed he was 17, attempting to downplay the severity of the situation.
Prosecutor Robin Turton detailed that the conversation quickly shifted from casual chatting to sexually explicit topics, with Peloe describing various sexual acts he would like to perform with the decoy.
At one point, Peloe claimed he had contemplated taking his own life and offered to end the contact, admitting his real age of 36.
However, the prosecution argued that this was an attempt to manipulate the decoy emotionally.
Further investigation revealed that police had found similar conversations on Peloe’s mobile phone, where he was engaging in sexually explicit dialogue with an apparent 13-year-old girl on WhatsApp.
Despite these revelations, Peloe, who by then was 38 years old, resumed sexual conversations with the decoy shortly after and even encouraged her to perform a sex act.
His actions led to his arrest on April 20.
During the court proceedings, Peloe pleaded guilty to attempting to cause or incite a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity.
Judge Deborah Sherwin sentenced Peloe to two years in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years.
Additionally, she ordered him to participate in a sex offender treatment programme as part of his rehabilitation.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and online watchdog groups to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predatory behavior.
