OFFENDER WHO DEMANDED WOMAN REMOVE UNDERWEAR AND DAMAGED HER PROPERTY IN CONTROLLING SPREE
A 34-year-old allegedly engaged in controlling and coercive behaviour.Craig Norman is accused of ‘demanding a woman remove her underwear so he could inspect it to ensure that she had not slept with anyone’, court documents state.
He also allegedly ‘prevented the woman from leaving her home address unless in his company, constantly checked her telephone for calls and messages, took her bank card to prevent her from making purchases without his permission’.
Norman appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship; common assault and criminal damage.
The court papers outline the alleged coercive behaviour charge: “Repeatedly or continuously engaged in behaviour which was controlling or coercive, namely, throughout the period prevented [name of woman] from leaving her home address unless in your company, constantly checked her telephone for calls and messages, took her bank card to prevent her from making purchases without your permission, name called her and accused her of sleeping with other persons.
On [date] you demanded she remove her underwear and you inspected it to ensure that she had not slept with anyone and on [date] attended at her home address and threatened to kick the door in." Norman allegedly damaged front door, window and mobile phone belonging to the same woman “intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged”.
It is also alleged that he assaulted the woman.
The three offences reportedly happened in the Teesside area.
Norman appeared at the Middlesbrough court on Wednesday for a bail application.
A further hearing was scheduled for September 11 and a plea hearing for October 15.
Norman, of Heathcott Road, Leicester, was remanded into custody until he next appears at the magistrates’ court.
