A man from North Yorkshire began a custodial sentence today after he was convicted of possessing indecent images of minors.

Craig Scott Murfitt, aged 30 and residing in Bedale, was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court following his guilty plea to two counts of possessing indecent images and a charge of violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

He received an indefinite order to prevent sexual harm and was also mandated to register as a sex offender for a decade.

Murfitt had previously received a nine-month suspended sentence in 2016 for similar crimes and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order at that time.

The recent offences came to light during a routine check by public protection officers monitoring compliance with the order; during the check, his mobile phone and tablet were confiscated.

Subsequent examinations of these devices revealed additional indecent images of children.
