CRAIG MARSHALL'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN FIFE: VICTIMS ENDURED RAPE AND ABUSE

A man with a military background, Craig Marshall, has been sentenced to six years in prison after committing a series of heinous crimes against women in Fife.

The offences include assault, rape, and repeated acts of abuse that spanned over a period of more than a decade.

Marshall, aged 34 and formerly residing on Church Street in Kirkcaldy, was found guilty of attacking two women in different locations across the Kingdom of Fife, including the town of Cardenden.

His crimes began when he was still a teenager, with the earliest assault occurring between March 2007 and December 2008.

During this period, he assaulted a woman by attempting to punch her, grabbing her by the hair, and throttling her.

He also pushed her against a wall and threatened her, demonstrating a pattern of violent behavior from an early age.

One of the most disturbing incidents involved a sexual assault in July 2010, when the victim fell to the ground.

Marshall knelt on her arms, threatened her, and then raped her, leaving a lasting impact on her life.

His violent streak continued as he targeted a second woman between July 2015 and December 2018.

During these attacks, she was subjected to being kicked, pulled by her hair, throttled, and even had a knife pressed against her neck.

Marshall also engaged in humiliating acts, such as rubbing food on her face and forcibly ejecting her from a house in Cardenden.

Further evidence of his malicious intent was revealed when he threatened to disclose intimate images of the second woman to others, attempting to intimidate her.

In addition, Marshall subjected her to a terrifying car journey, during which he drove at excessive speeds while intoxicated, with her as a passenger.

His abusive conduct extended to social media, where in 2021 he posted videos containing swearing and threats directed at both victims.

During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Norman McFadyen condemned Marshall’s actions, stating, "These were serious and unpleasant offences committed against women.

They disclose an attitude of denial and victim blaming." Despite denying multiple charges initially, Marshall was convicted of five offences, including assault, rape, and abusive conduct, all committed over a span of more than a decade.

In his defense, counsel Edward Targowski KC highlighted Marshall’s military service, noting that he served "under combat" conditions in Iraq, which he claimed contributed to mental health issues.

Nevertheless, the court imposed a six-year prison sentence and ordered Marshall to be placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

Additionally, he will be subject to a three-year period of supervised release, during which he could be returned to prison if he breaches any conditions of his license.
