CRAIG MADDOCK FROM AYRSHIRE SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN FIFE

A man identified as Craig Maddock, aged 28 and hailing from Ayrshire, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being convicted of raping a woman while she was asleep. The incident took place at a residence in Rosyth, Fife, in June 2014.

According to court proceedings, Maddock admitted to the offence during the trial at the High Court in Glasgow. The victim, a 24-year-old woman, confronted Maddock several days after the assault and managed to record his confession on her mobile phone. This recording became a crucial piece of evidence in the case.

During police questioning, Maddock initially denied any involvement in the crime. However, advocate depute Peter Ferguson QC, who prosecuted the case, clarified that Maddock repeatedly denied raping the woman but acknowledged that he was the person speaking on the voice recording and that he was admitting to the rape.

The court was informed that Maddock has learning difficulties, which may have played a role in the circumstances surrounding the offence.

Judge Lord Burns, presiding over the case, ordered Maddock to be placed on the sex offenders’ register, reflecting the severity of the crime and the need for ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
