CRAIG HOWMAN AND SHOCKING CRIMES IN CHESHIRE
A man identified as Craig Howman, known for his frequent and troubling encounters with the law, has been officially prohibited from entering any licensed premises within the Cheshire area after a series of concerning incidents. This legal action follows his recent appearance at Chester Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to serious charges involving sexual assault and resisting a police officer.
The incident that led to his conviction occurred at a public house situated on Witton Street in Northwich on May 25 of this year.
The court heard details of the assault and the subsequent actions of Howman, a 31-year-old resident of Stones Manor Lane, Hartford.
The court found him guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a local pub, a serious offense that prompted immediate judicial response.
In addition to the criminal conviction, Howman received a 16-week imprisonment sentence.
Furthermore, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next seven years, a measure aimed at monitoring his activities and ensuring public safety.
The court also issued a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), imposing a series of restrictions designed to prevent future incidents.
This CBO explicitly bans Howman from entering any licensed establishments such as pubs, restaurants, clubs, bars, or cafes in the CW8 or CW9 postcode areas of Northwich.
Moreover, he is prohibited from being publicly intoxicated within these areas, as well as from carrying any open containers of alcohol in public spaces within the same postcode zones.
These restrictions are intended to curb his access to environments where alcohol consumption may escalate his behavior.
The order further stipulates that Howman must refrain from causing harassment, alarm, or distress to members of the public.
This includes a ban on swearing towards or in the presence of others, including emergency service personnel.
The court emphasized that part of his rehabilitation involves engagement in drug and alcohol treatment programs, highlighting the seriousness of his behavioral pattern.
During the hearing, authorities revealed that Howman had come into contact with police officers on no fewer than 15 occasions within the past year alone.
Most of these encounters involved alcohol-related issues, underlining a persistent pattern of disruptive conduct.
Chief Inspector Darren Griffith, who oversees the Northwich Local Policing Unit, commented on the case stating, “Howman is a prolific offender and his behaviour over the past year has been totally unacceptable.
He often becomes abusive and disruptive towards innocent members of the public, causing unnecessary alarm and distress.
There comes a point when you have to say enough is enough and take additional action to protect the community and businesses in the area.
I hope that this order provides reassurance to local residents and helps to deter Howman’s criminal behaviour once he is released from prison.” The court also warned that any breach of these conditions could result in a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment.
Police have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any violations or suspicious behavior involving Howman by contacting Cheshire Police either via their non-emergency phone line at 101 or through their online reporting portal at cheshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/soh/seen-or-heard/.
