ROCHESTER MAN JAILED FOR RAPES DATING BACK MORE THAN 30 YEARS AGO
A man who committed multiple rapes against a teenage girl over three decades ago has finally been imprisoned.Craig Haines, who was 18 at the time of the offenses, assaulted his victim numerous times from December 1991 to April 1992.
Now 53 years old and residing on Dale Road in Rochester, Haines was questioned by police and initially claimed he did not know the girl.
Subsequently, he admitted to two counts of rape, which occurred at his residence, during a court appearance at Southwark Crown Court in March.
The court was told that Haines sometimes threatened his victim with violence.
On Thursday, June 11, the court sentenced him to eight and a half years in prison.
Additionally, Haines was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
The case highlights the victim’s courage in coming forward to testify.
Detective Constable Emma Davies, who led the investigation, said: “Haines exploited the young victim, leaving her traumatized, with enduring and deep impacts on her life.
“I want to acknowledge her bravery in reporting what happened and assisting with the investigation." She added, “I hope that the outcome of this case and the sentence serve to bring her some sense of closure.
