CLYDEBANK COUNCILLOR RESIGNS AFTER GUILTY PLEA TO SEX CRIMES
15/03/2025 A convicted sex offender has resigned as a councillor for Clydebank.
Craig Edward, 34, formally resigned as a councillor from West Dunbartonshire Council on Friday evening, a month after pleading guilty to possessing hundreds of indecent images of children.
His Twitter account changed his description to "former councillor," and his name has been removed from the council's website under elected members.
A by-election is expected to be called for the Clydebank Central ward in due course.
He was elected as a Labour councillor in May 2022 but was expelled from the party when charged in September that year and has been sitting as an independent since.
In February, he pleaded guilty to possession, involvement in the making, and distributing indecent images of children.
Despite being on the sex offenders register, he continued to email and Tweet as a councillor and moved to England after being charged but kept his position.
A council spokesperson confirmed his resignation with immediate effect.
