SCOTS PREDATOR CRAIG DUNSMORE SENTENCED IN EDINBURGH FOR SEX OFFENCES INCLUDING RAPE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In July 2021, Craig Dunsmore, a 27-year-old from Broomhouse in Edinburgh, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison after being found guilty at Edinburgh High Court of heinous sexual crimes.Dunsmore impersonated a teenage boy online, successfully deceiving a 14-year-old girl into trusting him.
He then convinced her to travel from her home to Edinburgh, where he attacked and raped her at his residence in the Broomhouse area.
The court was told that Dunsmore had posed as a 15-year-old and persuaded the victim to come to Edinburgh under false pretenses.
During the assault on January 19, 2019, he pushed her onto a bed and held her down.
Judge Alison Stirling commented on the case, stating: “She froze thinking she was going to be raped, which is what happened.” Dunsmore denied the rape during an earlier trial but was convicted of the offence.
He was also found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with the underage girl, which included requesting her to take explicit photos of herself and send them to him.
Additional convictions included possession and distribution of indecent images of children, as well as possession of extreme pornography depicting explicit scenes, including rape, non-consensual sex, and bestiality.
The court heard that Dunsmore had also contacted a 13-year-old girl via a different phone, asking her for images of her buttocks.
These actions took place in September 2019 while Dunsmore was already under bail orders at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
During those communications, he falsely claimed to be 15.
A judge told Dunsmore during the sentencing that “Custody is the only appropriate disposal having regard to the serious nature of your offending,” and Dunsmore was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
In June 2021, Dunsmore was described by police as a ‘dangerous individual’ and was branded ‘depraved’ following his conviction on multiple sex offences, including the rape of a woman in Edinburgh in January 2019 and possession of illegal images.
Authorities emphasized that Dunsmore's actions were motivated purely by his own depraved sexual gratification, highlighting the bravery of the victims who came forward to seek justice for his evil deeds.
