CRAIG BURNIKELL SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS IN PRISON FOR RAPE IN MILTON KEYNES
In a recent court ruling at Aylesbury Crown Court, Craig Burnikell, a 26-year-old man from St Dunstans, Coffee Hall in Milton Keynes, was sentenced to serve eight years behind bars for the crime of rape.The sentencing took place on Tuesday, June 13, following a conviction that was reached after a four-day trial.
Burnikell’s guilt was established through a majority jury verdict on a single count of rape, which was concluded on April 17 of this year.
The case drew significant attention due to the serious nature of the offense and the circumstances surrounding it.
The incident in question occurred on December 13, 2019, when the victim was out in Milton Keynes enjoying an evening with friends.
After a night out, the victim and Burnikell shared a taxi ride to Burnikell’s residence.
During the journey, the victim realized she had lost her belongings, which led her to decide to stay overnight at Burnikell’s house.
While at Burnikell’s home, the victim fell asleep.
It was during this time that Burnikell committed the assault, raping her while she was unconscious or unable to resist.
The victim’s ordeal was only discovered after the incident, leading to Burnikell’s subsequent arrest.
He was taken into custody on December 20, 2019, and faced charges that culminated in his formal arraignment on February 18, 2021.
The legal proceedings culminated in his conviction and the subsequent sentencing, which reflects the court’s recognition of the gravity of his actions and the need for justice for the victim.
