COURTNEY BRIERLEY'S SHOCKING ARSON CASE IN MANCHESTER: WALKDEN HOUSE FIRE TRAGEDY

In June 2019, a tragic incident unfolded in Walkden, Manchester, that would leave a lasting scar on the community and ignite a fierce legal battle.

A young woman named Courtney Brierley, aged 21 at the time, found herself at the center of a devastating arson attack that resulted in the deaths of four children and injuries to their mother, Michelle Pearson.

On the early morning of December 11, 2017, Brierley was involved in a heinous act of violence that targeted a family home on Jackson Street in Walkden.

She was accused of assisting two men, Zak Bolland, her then-boyfriend, and David Worrall, in executing a petrol bomb attack that would turn the lives of many upside down.

The attack was carried out at approximately 5 a.m., with Brierley actively participating in the planning and execution of the crime.

According to court proceedings, Brierley helped Bolland and Worrall by urging them to conceal their identities with hoods as they purchased the petrol used in the firebombing.

She then accompanied them in the vehicle that transported the petrol bombs to the scene of the attack.

Witnesses testified that she was present during the preparation and was complicit in the act, although she later claimed her involvement was driven by fear of her abusive and violent boyfriend, Zak Bolland, and that she did not fully comprehend the extent of what was about to happen.

The tragic outcome of this attack was the death of four children: Demi Pearson, aged 15, and her siblings Brandon, aged 8, Lacie, aged 7, and three-year-old Lia.

Their mother, Michelle Pearson, was rescued from the burning house but sustained serious injuries.

The incident was the culmination of a bitter feud involving Bolland and Kyle Pearson, Michelle's eldest son, who managed to escape the blaze unharmed.

Zak Bolland and his accomplice, David Worrall, are both serving life sentences for murder, with Bolland receiving a minimum term of 40 years and Worrall 37 years.

Their crimes included throwing petrol bombs into the house, with Worrall throwing a smaller bomb that caused less damage, while Bolland's larger device resulted in the tragic deaths.

During the trial at Manchester Crown Court, the jury acquitted Courtney Brierley of murder but found her guilty of four counts of manslaughter.

She was sentenced to 21 years in a young offenders’ institution, with the possibility of parole after serving half of her sentence.

Brierley, who is reportedly a 'broken' woman behind bars, has lodged appeals against both her conviction and her sentence, which are scheduled to be heard at the Royal Courts of Justice in London on June 27.

It is believed that Brierley is currently incarcerated at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey, a facility known for housing some of the most dangerous female prisoners in the country, including Joanna Dennehy, who murdered three men in 2013.

Former inmates have described her as being very withdrawn and emotionally shattered, often in tears and rarely socializing with others.

She was initially held on remand in a single cell and was described as being in a 'very bad way' when she returned to serve her sentence.

Meanwhile, Zak Bolland, aged 24 and residing on Blackleach Drive in Worsley, was convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 40 years.

His actions involved throwing a large petrol bomb through a rear window while the family was asleep, igniting the deadly blaze.

Worrall, aged 27 from Worsley Avenue, Worsley, was also convicted of murder for throwing a smaller petrol bomb, which caused less damage but contributed to the tragedy.

He received a minimum sentence of 37 years.

The case continues to resonate within the Manchester community, highlighting the devastating consequences of violent feuds and reckless acts of arson that can claim innocent lives and forever alter the lives of those involved.
