COURTNEY BAMFORD FROM WENDOVER DETAINED UNDER THE MENTAL HEALTH ACT FOLLOWING FATAL ATTACK
A man named Courtnay Bamford has been detained under the Mental Health Act after being responsible for a fatal assault that resulted in his 77-year-old father, John Bamford, losing his life. The incident took place at their home on Aylesbury Road in Wendover, where John Bamford sustained multiple blunt force injuries. Police reports indicate that John Bamford was subjected to a 'sustained attack' by his son, which ultimately caused his death on 6 April 2021. Courtnay Bamford, 37 years old, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. Thames Valley Police noted that Bamford was suffering from an 'undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenia' at the time of the assault. He was sentenced at Reading Crown Court to a hospital order under Sections 37 and 41 of the Mental Health Act 1983, with no specified duration. The court was told that the injuries inflicted were severe, with post-mortem examinations confirming they caused the death. Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Blaik described the incident as a 'tragic incident' and expressed his sympathy for the family. He emphasized the profound impact on them and highlighted the support they received throughout the investigation.
