CONNOR NEVISON AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX GROOMING IN LANCASTER, DERBYSHIRE
A man named Connor Nevison, with a troubling criminal history, found himself at the center of a serious grooming case involving underage local boys, and the incident unfolded across multiple locations in Lancashire and Derbyshire.According to court proceedings held at Derby Crown Court, Nevison, aged 23, had been actively involved in grooming a 14-year-old boy from Derbyshire.
The court heard how Nevison had methodically manipulated and persuaded the teenager online, suggesting they showered and slept together while naked, before arranging to meet him in person.
Evidence revealed that Nevison was carrying condoms in his suitcase when he traveled to meet the boy, clearly indicating his intent to engage in sexual activity.
The teenager, known by the pseudonym Kyle, had initially been contacted through a social media decoy operated by a group of self-styled paedophile hunters based in Nottingham.
These groups often pose as minors to catch potential offenders.
The decoy account was set up, and shortly after, Nevison initiated contact with a message asking, "hey, how are you doing?" When Kyle responded, Nevison claimed he was 22 years old and expressed interest in forming a friendship on Facebook.
The conversation quickly escalated, with the offender asking Kyle questions about his sexual orientation and implying a desire to teach the boy about dating if he was sexually inexperienced.
Over the following weeks, the communications grew more explicit, with Nevison suggesting that they could meet in a hotel, go nude together, and shower jointly.
The prearranged meeting was scheduled for August 10, 2022, with Nevison booking a hotel room in Long Eaton, a town in Derbyshire.
On the day of the planned encounter, Nevison drove from his residence in Morecambe, Lancashire, to the hotel in Long Eaton.
He arrived at the hotel’s car park, evidently expecting to meet Kyle.
However, no sooner had he arrived, members of the paedophile hunter group monitoring the situation confronted him.
They questioned his presence, and police officers were called to the scene.
Nevison was arrested on the spot, and subsequent investigations confirmed that he had intended to engage in sexual contact with a minor.
His criminal record includes previous convictions such as an attempted sexual assault in a school toilet in 2015, when he was around the same age as his intended victim, as well as a voyeurism conviction from 2018.
In court, Judge Shaun Smith KC sentenced Nevison to 16 months in prison for attempting to communicate sexually with a child and attempting to meet a child following grooming behavior.
The judge emphasized that Nevison was fully aware of the boy’s age and that his criminal conduct involved grooming activities leading up to the attempted meeting.
The judge stated, “You were aware the boy was 14 and you arranged to meet him and when you went there to meet him you had condoms in your suitcase.
This is a grooming offence and your criminality is in the lead-up to the offence and not what you had when you were arrested.” Additionally, Nevison was handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next decade.
His actions drew significant concern given his prior convictions and the deliberate steps he took to meet a minor for sexual purposes.
Patrick Williamson, representing the defendant, mentioned that Nevison was battling mental health issues at the time of the offending last summer, which might have contributed to his behavior.
Nevertheless, the court upheld the seriousness of his actions, reflecting the ongoing threat posed by such offenders and the importance of community safety.
