Larkhall Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Connor Brown, aged 23 and hailing from Larkhall, was sentenced to prison for inflicting severe injuries on an 18-month-old girl in Blantyre, East Kilbride. The incident, which occurred in September 2018, involved Brown violently injuring the young child after she refused to stop crying, an act that has been described as both cowardly and callous.

According to court reports, Brown was holding the toddler on his lap when she became distressed and started crying uncontrollably. In a moment of frustration, he forcibly twisted her arms behind her back, causing both arms to fracture. The child's mother, who was present during the incident, recounted witnessing the horrifying event in her living room. She told Hamilton Sheriff Court that she heard the unmistakable sound of her daughter's arms cracking, a noise that has haunted her since.

Initially, the mother told medical staff at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride that her daughter had fallen behind a television, attempting to conceal the true cause of her injuries. However, when hospital staff grew suspicious and questioned her further, she admitted that Connor Brown was responsible for the injuries. An examination revealed that the child's humerus bones had been fractured, confirming the severity of the assault.

Brown, who is known to reside in Larkhall, attempted to justify his actions by claiming that the injuries resulted from the child's epileptic fit. This explanation was dismissed outright by Sheriff Thomas Millar during a special hearing. Brown also claimed he could not remember assaulting the child and insisted he would never intentionally harm anyone. Despite his assertions, medical experts testified that the fractures could only have been caused by twisting the child's arms with significant force, which was consistent with the injuries sustained.

The young girl made a full recovery from her injuries, although both arms required immobilization in plaster for several weeks. The court heard that the injuries inflicted by Brown were severe and caused the child considerable distress. Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting the girl, resulting in her serious injuries, and was subsequently sentenced to 21 months in prison by Sheriff Thomas Millar.

In delivering his judgment, Sheriff Millar emphasized the gravity of the offense, stating, "The child was 18 months old at the time when you lost your temper with her, bent her arms behind her back, and caused spiral fractures in both arms. This caused extreme distress to the child. Even with your age and limited record, only a custodial sentence must follow for causing such injury to a young child. This is a very serious offence."

He also noted that if Brown had not pleaded guilty, he would have faced a sentence of two years in prison. The case has left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
