“THE WAR HAS ALREADY BEEN WON” — VICTIM’S DEFIANT MESSAGE AFTER BURNTISLAND RAPIST FOUND GUILTY

A Burntisland man has been found guilty of rape and sexual assault following a trial at Edinburgh High Court.

Connir Knighton, 22, from the Castle area of Burntisland, was convicted of two charges involving the rape and sexual assault of a woman aged over 16.

The verdict brings an end to a traumatic court battle for the victim, who says the offences had a devastating impact on her life and left her struggling to leave her own home.

In a powerful message following the conviction, the victim chose the words: “The war has already been won” — a statement of courage after years of fighting for justice.

The case has also drawn attention after comments allegedly made on social media by Knighton’s father following the guilty verdict.

In a Facebook post, he reportedly wrote: “You may have won the battle but you won’t win the war.” The remark sparked criticism from supporters of the victim, who viewed it as an attempt to minimise the outcome of the trial and the suffering experienced by the woman at the centre of the case.

For the victim, however, the jury’s decision represents a significant milestone after enduring what she describes as life-changing trauma.

Campaigners say the verdict highlights the importance of victims coming forward and seeing the justice process through, despite the immense challenges involved.

Knighton is due to return to court for sentencing on 14 July 2026.

The victim’s message remains clear: after the guilty verdict was delivered, the battle was over — and the war had already been won.
