CHELMSFORD MAN JAILED FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A sexual abuse victim has spoken out after Colin Turner, a 69-year-old man from Firtree Rise in Chelmsford, was sentenced to three years in prison for historic sexual offences.Turner was found guilty of two counts of buggery and one count of indecency with a child following an investigation that started in August 2021 after a survivor contacted Essex Police to report abuse from decades ago when he was a young boy.
Turner had sexually abused the victim multiple times over several months during that period.
During police interviews in January 2022, Turner denied all allegations and responded with 'no comment' to all questions.
Turner was subsequently charged and convicted of the crimes.
After the sentence was announced on Thursday (September 26), the victim bravely issued a heartfelt statement encouraging others to seek support.
The victim shared how he had spent years unable to process what happened and how the trauma affected his life.
He described feeling different after reporting the abuse, feeling understood and supported, especially through the assistance of Detective Constable Emily Monk and the Centre for Action on Rape and Abuse (CARA).
He emphasized the importance of speaking out and the relief found in being listened to.
The investigation and court process were supported by Essex Police and local support organizations like CARA and Synergy Essex.
Detective Constable Emily Monk highlighted how the survivor reported when ready and expressed hope for his future as a result of justice being served.
