SOUTHSEA MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A 67-year-old man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for historical sex offences against children.Colin Stear, a resident of Southsea, was convicted of assaulting a boy under 13 through touching, as well as two counts of inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
The crimes were committed against two victims during the period from 2004 to 2018 in Portsmouth.
The sentencing took place at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday.In addition to his prison term, Stear was ordered to comply with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and received a three-year extension to his license period.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary led the investigation that uncovered the case.Detective Constable George Aram expressed gratitude to the victims for their courage in coming forward, stating, "Thanks to the victims' cooperation, we have been able to secure a significant conviction.
No matter how long ago the offence happened, we want to ensure that victims of sexual assault have the confidence to report to the police.
We will listen to you and seek justice." The police emphasized their commitment to supporting victims, regardless of the time elapsed since the offence.Police officials highlighted the importance of victims feeling safe to report abuse, and assured that authorities are actively working to achieve justice for victims of such crimes, reiterating their appreciation for the victims' cooperation.
