COLIN ROBERTS GAINESBOROUGH PERVERT CAUGHT TRYING TO GROOM ONLINE
In December 2018, a man from Gainsborough, identified as Colin Roberts, was involved in a disturbing online incident that led to him receiving a police caution. Roberts, who was acting in the role of a foster carer, initiated contact with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl’s social media profile.Roberts first reached out to the profile, which he thought belonged to a young girl. After establishing communication, he introduced himself, and the girl responded by sharing her name and confirming her age as 14. What followed was a series of inappropriate and sexual messages sent by Roberts, which raised serious concerns about his intentions.
Roberts made several lewd comments, including remarks about the girl’s physical appearance, specifically stating that she was 'getting a nice little figure on her.' He also expressed a desire to see her in the bath, explicitly stating he would like to 'wash her back.' These messages clearly indicated an attempt to groom the minor for sexual purposes.
Furthermore, Roberts asked the girl to send pictures of herself in swimwear, claiming that she had 'the body for a bikini.' He expressed a desire to see her in a bikini to assess 'how pretty' she was in the outfit. These requests and comments demonstrated a disturbing level of predatory behavior.
Unbeknownst to Roberts, he was not communicating with a minor but with an adult member of the online paedophile hunting team known as ‘Here for the Kids.’ This team conducts sting operations by posing online as minors to catch individuals attempting to engage in sexual activities with children. The interaction was part of an undercover effort to identify and apprehend predators like Roberts.
Following the incident, authorities issued Roberts a police caution, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions and the importance of safeguarding children from online predators. The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable minors from exploitation.
