COLIN NOTMAN FROM EDINBURGH SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC SEX OFFENSES AGAINST CHILDREN
In a case that has shocked the community of Edinburgh, a man named Colin Notman has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses involving young girls.Notman, a known high-risk sex offender, was deported from the United States to face justice in Scotland after a disturbing history of abuse.
Notman’s criminal activities spanned several years, with his most egregious acts occurring between 2013 and 2016.
The 27-year-old offender targeted two young girls in separate incidents, both of which took place within the city of Edinburgh.
His first known attack involved a ten-year-old girl, whom he lured into an attic bedroom at a house in the city between January 1 and July 23, 2013.
During this assault, Notman raped the young girl, and later that same day, he repeated the attack by pinning her to the floor and raping her again.
These acts inflicted severe trauma on the child and left lasting scars.
His second victim was a 13-year-old girl who was visiting a residence in the Broomhouse area of Edinburgh.
The initial attack on her occurred sometime between October 1 and December 31, 2013, at a house where she was a guest.
Notman’s predatory behavior did not end there; he later assaulted her again on March 10, 2016, at a different location.
During this second attack, a woman unexpectedly entered the room, causing Notman to pull up his trousers and flee the scene.
The police later detained him at a house in the Gorgie neighborhood, and forensic evidence linked him conclusively to the sexual assault on the second girl.
Notman’s criminal record also includes a failure to appear at a scheduled High Court hearing, which caused additional delays and distress for his victims.
He was granted bail at Edinburgh Sheriff Court but failed to attend a hearing on February 9 of the previous year.
A warrant was issued for his arrest, and it was later discovered that he had been arrested in the United States.
He was deported back to Scotland and detained at Edinburgh Airport on January 23 of this year.
During his sentencing at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lady Scott addressed the severity of Notman’s crimes, stating, “You have robbed both children of their childhoods and caused lasting damage.” She emphasized the profound impact on the victims, noting that “these young children will have to rebuild their lives.” The judge also highlighted that Notman’s actions had caused significant delays in the justice process and considerable distress to the victims.
In her sentencing remarks, Lady Scott described Notman as a high-risk offender, citing a background report that indicated he posed a serious threat of reoffending.
Despite this, she took into account his relatively young age and his expressions of remorse, as well as his acknowledgment of the harm caused.
As part of his sentence, Notman was ordered to remain under supervision for an additional two years and to be registered on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
Overall, the case underscores the grave dangers posed by individuals like Notman and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial processes to protect vulnerable children from predatory behavior.
