COLIN LISTER'S BRUTAL CRIME SPREE IN DUNFERMLINE AND BEYOND LEADS TO 54-MONTH JAIL SENTENCE
A man from Dunfermline, identified as Colin Lister, has been handed a significant prison sentence following a series of violent and vicious attacks on two women over a period of nearly six years. The sentencing took place at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, where Lister, aged 46, was convicted on five separate charges linked to his aggressive conduct.
The presiding judge described Lister's campaign of abuse as 'vicious,' highlighting the severity of his actions and their lasting impact.
One of the most disturbing incidents involved Lister hitting a woman with a mug so forcefully that it shattered, leaving her with a permanent scar that necessitated plastic surgery.
This act of violence was part of a broader pattern of assault and intimidation that spanned several years.
During the court proceedings, Sheriff Alastair Thornton detailed the harrowing evidence presented, which included accounts of Lister's behavior at various addresses in Dunfermline, as well as in Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy.
Despite maintaining his innocence and claiming to be a victim of abuse by the women involved, Sheriff Thornton emphasized that the evidence demonstrated a clear pattern of domestic violence and aggressive conduct.
The court recognized the need to impose a custodial sentence to safeguard the public and prevent further harm.
Lister's history of previous convictions for domestic abuse was also a factor in the decision to sentence him to 54 months in prison.
The court heard that Lister had assaulted one woman over an 11-month period from August 2005 to June 2006, during which he once struck her hand with a knife.
The second woman endured repeated attacks over a five-year span from January 2008 to December 2012.
These assaults included stamping on her body, inflicting severe injuries, and causing permanent disfigurement.
In addition to physical violence, Lister behaved in a disorderly, threatening, and abusive manner towards both women, instilling fear and alarm in their lives.
Furthermore, a non-harassment order was issued to restrict Lister's contact with one of the victims, underscoring the court's recognition of the ongoing threat he posed.
The case highlights the serious nature of domestic abuse and the importance of legal measures to protect victims from further harm.
