SEX OFFENDER HARDING DIES IN PRISON WITH LESS THAN A QUARTER OF HIS SENTENCE SERVED
A convicted sex offender died in a Midlands prison.
Colin Harding, aged 74, died at HMP Stafford on August 3, 2024.
He was jailed on January 13, 2022, where he was sentenced to 21 years in prison for sexual offences.
An investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) concluded he died of natural causes.
The report stated: "Mr Harding died of squamous carcinoma of the skin, with atrial fibrillation, ischaemic heart disease, and carcinoma of prostate, on 3 August 2024 at HMP Stafford." He was 74 years old.
An independent clinical reviewer commissioned by NHS England noted Harding’s care was of a "good standard" but found an "unacceptable delay" in sharing his histology results after surgery in February 2023.
The investigation also offered condolences to his family and friends.
