COLIN GREEN FROM SWINDON ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE HAVING HUNDREDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the community of Swindon, a local man named Colin Green was found to be in possession of a significant collection of indecent images depicting young boys.The incident came to light in March when authorities acted on an anonymous tip received by the NSPCC, which alerted them to the possibility that Green was involved in possessing child pornography.
Police officers arrived at Green's residence on Guppy Street to conduct a search.
During the arrest, the 46-year-old man made a statement to the officers, claiming, “I got the images from Bing, I am a gay man, I have nothing to hide.” Despite his assertion, the evidence found on his mobile phones painted a different picture.
Prosecutor Claire Marlow revealed that the police recovered two mobile phones from Green, which contained a total of 1,670 indecent images of children.
She emphasized that more than 1,200 of these images fell into the most serious categories of indecency, indicating their disturbing nature.
The court was told that Green admitted responsibility for the content when shown the images, although he initially claimed that both phones were internet-enabled and that he had downloaded images of adults.
Green, a resident of Guppy Street in Swindon, faced multiple charges.
He pleaded guilty to seven counts of making indecent images of children and one count of possessing such images, with the offenses spanning from May 2009 to March of the current year.
During the proceedings, his defense lawyer, Nick Fridd, stated that Green was remorseful and that the images were downloaded from an American website where they were labeled as being of individuals over 18.
Fridd added that Green had recognized that some of the images did not depict adults and had taken steps to delete them.
In delivering his sentence, Judge Douglas Field expressed his concerns about Green’s actions and attitudes.
He noted that the pre-sentence report highlighted the deeply entrenched and distorted views Green had developed through viewing these images for sexual gratification.
The judge acknowledged Green’s willingness to participate in a sex offenders’ rehabilitation program but emphasized that a short custodial sentence would not be sufficient to address the underlying issues.
As a result, Green was sentenced to a 24-month community order, which includes participation in a sex offenders’ program.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of five years, underscoring the seriousness of his offenses and the ongoing monitoring required to protect the community of Swindon.
