Colin Dear Domestic Abuser in Bow of Fife
COLIN DEAR
During his court appearance at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday, Colin Dear, of Fraser Drive, admitted to assaulting his former partner on June 6 at Mitchell Crescent, Hill of Beath.
The incident involved him climbing onto her while she was on the ground and repeatedly grabbing her head, resulting in injury.
Additionally, on the same day, Dear behaved aggressively during his transport to Dunfermline Police Station, shouting threats of violence against officers and headbutting a police vehicle’s interior.
Prosecutor Jamie Roy explained that Dear arrived at his ex-partner’s home just before 2:30 a.m., where an argument ensued, leading to her being pushed onto the floor and Dear seizing her head.
Police officers arrived, handcuffed Dear, and he reacted violently, threatening them with statements like: 'I will find out where you stay.
I will make it my f****** mission.' While in the police vehicle, he continued to threaten, asserting he would assault the officers and break their noses.
He also claimed he would locate the officers within a 50-mile radius for further assault after they finished their shift, refusing to cease these threats during the entire journey.
The court heard from solicitor Alexander Flett that Dear and the victim had been in a relationship for seven years.
Flett also noted that the incident had a sobering effect on Dear and that he was aware alcohol played a role in his previous offenses and wanted to address this.
Sheriff Charles Macnair commented on the violence of the attack and expressed concern about Dear’s threats against police, highlighting the gravity of such behavior.
The sheriff emphasized that threats against public officials are taken seriously and will not be tolerated.
Considering Dear’s recent period of abstention and remorse, the sheriff opted for a non-custodial sentence, including a community payback order for two years, supervision, and participation in the Caledonian Men’s Project, which assists men with a history of domestic violence.
Dear was also required to complete 190 hours of unpaid community work within six months.
